Seachtain na Gaeilge

Seachtain na Gaeilge is an international Irish language festival and one of the largest celebrations of our native language and culture. Each year, schools and communities across Ireland and around the world come together to celebrate and promote the Irish language, traditions and culture.

At Dulargy N.S., we are delighted to take part in the Seachtain na Gaeilge celebrations each year. Ms. Mullen takes responsibility for organising Seachtain na Gaeilge in the school and plans a wonderful variety of activities throughout the week, ensuring that the children have plenty of opportunities to use and enjoy the Irish language in a fun and engaging way.

As part of the festivities, we host a Lá Glas, when all pupils are invited to wear green and celebrate our national language and heritage. Throughout Seachtain na Gaeilge, the children learn and practise a variety of traditional Irish dances before showcasing their talents at a special céilí in the Community Centre on Lá Glas. The children also enjoy performing a selection of Irish songs for one another, including Irish-language versions of well-known favourites such as The Haka and Da Do Ron Ron.

This year, Ms. Mullen also organised a Seachtain na Gaeilge shop, where the children were encouraged to chat, interact and communicate with one another through Irish. This provided a fun and practical opportunity for the children to use the language in everyday conversations while developing their confidence in speaking Irish.

There is a wonderful variety of Irish-themed activities taking place across the school, including traditional Irish games, arts and crafts, music, dance and language activities. These activities provide the children with enjoyable opportunities to develop their Irish while learning about and celebrating our rich culture and traditions.
