Our Outdoor Spaces

Dulargy N.S. is extremely fortunate to have a large and varied outdoor space, which we take great pride in. We are committed to providing our pupils with opportunities to play, explore, exercise, socialise and enjoy the outdoors in a safe and stimulating environment.

Our outdoor facilities have been significantly enhanced in recent years. The school now has a MUGA (Multi-Use Games Area) pitch, providing pupils with a fantastic space for a wide range of sporting activities. The entire school playground has also been resurfaced and enhanced with thermoplastic playground games and markings, creating colourful and engaging spaces for children to enjoy during break times.

We are also excited about the next stage of our playground development. As part of the Creative Schools Project, we plan to enhance the 1st and 2nd Class playground with colourful wall art designed by the children themselves. This project will allow our pupils to express their creativity while helping to create a bright, welcoming and child-centred outdoor environment.

The senior yard is home to a beautiful outdoor garden, which the children have helped to develop and decorate with painted stones and ornaments. An abundance of bulbs has been planted throughout the garden, bringing colour and life to the space during the spring months. The garden also features a wonderful outdoor classroom, with tables and benches crafted from local trees with the help of our caretaker. This provides the children with a unique setting for learning and exploring outside the traditional classroom.

We have also received a generous donation which we hope to use to support a pollination project. The children will play an active role in developing this project in the months leading up to summer, learning about biodiversity, pollinators and the importance of protecting our natural environment. 

Our younger pupils in Junior and Senior Infants are fortunate to have their own dedicated soft-play area, equipped with a slide, climbing frame, balance beam and mini roundabout. This provides a safe and enjoyable space where our youngest children can develop their physical skills while having fun outdoors.

The senior classes have access to the MUGA, outdoor football pitches and basketball courts, providing plenty of opportunities for sport and physical activity throughout the school year. During the summer months, when the weather is suitable, pupils also have access to the football pitch at the back of the school. This is always a much-anticipated part of the school year and provides the children with another wonderful opportunity to enjoy being active outdoors.

At Dulargy N.S., we are proud of our outdoor facilities and continue to develop them in ways that support pupil wellbeing, creativity, physical activity, outdoor learning and a strong connection with our natural environment.
