Creative Schools at Dulargy N.S.
Dulargy N.S. is delighted to be taking part in the Creative Schools Project, a two-year initiative that provides children with opportunities to explore and develop their creativity through a wide range of artistic and cultural experiences.
The project is being organised in our school by Mrs. O’Connor, with the support and guidance of our Creative Associate, Lisa Duffy. Together, they are helping to create exciting opportunities for our pupils to explore different forms of creativity and to develop their ideas, skills and confidence.
Mrs O Connor organised a whole school art competition where the children were encouraged to present their ideas on how we could enhance our school playground through art. Some amazing ideas were presented which has led us to working towards the inclusion of a mural in the school playground.
The children will work together to design the mural around the theme of local myths and legends, exploring the stories, characters and traditions connected to our local area. This project will allow the children to express their creativity while developing a greater appreciation of our local heritage and culture.
As part of the initiative, the children have already had the opportunity to work with storyteller John Ruddy, exploring the art of storytelling and bringing local stories to life.
Throughout the coming year, the children will also participate in a variety of exciting workshops, including sessions with Heritage Specialist Francesca Caddeau, Puppet Creator Niamh McPhillips, and Fighting Words Creative Writing Workshops. These experiences will introduce the children to different creative disciplines and provide them with opportunities to learn from experienced artists and practitioners.
We look forward to seeing how the children’s ideas develop over the course of the two-year project and, ultimately, to seeing their creativity and imagination transformed into a colourful and meaningful mural for our school playground.
The Creative Schools Project promises to be a wonderful journey of creativity, storytelling, heritage and self-expression, and we are excited to see where the children’s imaginations take us!
