The RDS Dublin was abuzz with enthusiasm as 5th and 6th class students from Dulargy National School participated in the prestigious BT Young Scientist Exhibition, showcasing their projects and scientific curiosity. The school was the only primary school from County Louth to participate in the exhibition on Thursday 11th January 2024. The event, which celebrated its 60th year in operation, took place from January 9th to 13th and provided a platform for budding scientists to present their research and experiments to a captivated audience.
The team of 6th class students with the help of their teacher Ms. Alison Mathews conducted an investigation into how various liquids affect seed germination. The 5th class students under the guidance of their class teacher Ms. Fiona Mullen investigated the factors that affect the dispersal distance of helicopter seeds. Their experiments and meticulous data collection impressed judges and attendees alike.
The BT Young Scientist Exhibition is renowned for fostering a love for science and innovation among students, and this year’s participants certainly lived up to that reputation. The atmosphere in the RDS was electric as students eagerly explained their projects to judges, teachers, and fellow participants. The students also were afforded opportunities to visit other stalls at the exhibition and engage with other students’ projects and investigations. They also attended some spectacular science shows like “Limitless with Mark the Science Guy”, “Your Big Beautiful Biased Brain with James Sooper” and “Our Space Adventure: Challenges for the next 60 years in 3D”. Participation in the event creates and sparks enthusiasm among the children for exploring the wonders of the scientific world.
